Hi Jon and Jack,

A friend of mine who visited Mongolia a couple of years ago raved about a local sparking wine. I think he was pulling my leg, I mean how can you make wine in such a climate? Did you see any or better still sample any?

Thanks, miss you in the mornings Jon

Samarkand. Now who was it made so much out of that? Saki (J J Munro)? Someone did, and it sounds as though you blokes are experiencing the very same thing.

Daughter Jessica is just dribbling on the phone to her boyfriend about Libby Price leaping into the quagmire with both feet in her mouth on the execution of the Bali bombers issue. They have been executed, by the way. A repugnant thing, although I can understand the feelings of victims and the living relatives of the dead.

I just wish they wouldn't talk about needing "closure".

The media keep talking about how Kevin-4-7 is a world leader in the current economic meltdown. A guy in 'The Age' today challenged anyone to come up with any reference to Rudd or anything Australia is going in re. the meltdown, in overseas media. He has promised a free gift of some mining shares as a reward if they can find anything.

Life rolls on the dull beige of our apathy.

Better get back Jon, you're needed. And Jack, if you're half as prickly as your dad can be, you'd better get back too.

Off to Dili in a couple of weeks; Gabriela is right now on an official trip to Portugal and Dubai. Bloody hell!!!

Cheers, geoff

Dear John while listening ABc (on 26 November 2008 about 9pm in Melbourne time) I've found out that your journey has taken to you Kurdistan (East of Turkey) you have mentioned that you come accross a big demostration. Recently there have been ans still there are many such big demostrations. Kurdish people are seeking for their rigths. Their linguistic and cultural rights. Their human rights Yes you are now in Kurdish Land (even no one recognised that except Kurds). I hope you will enjoy the time you will spent in Kurdistan. I as well hope you will have some time to tallk ordinary Kurdish people and their democratic instutition such as representative of the Democratic Society Party to get more information about plights of the Kurdish people let the world know more about the issues of my lonely people whom have been ignored for such a long time. I am very excited that you are now in my motherland. Land of mountain and water, land of resistants, land that seeks for peace such a long time. Good luck. I hope we will hear more from you.

Kind Regards

Jon and Jack

Your travels are the brightest part of my days lately, whilst I wait 2 years to see a Neurologist, the third world countries you are in would match our public hospitals with waiting times I'm sure (assuming they have hospitals). Missed you again yesterday on 774, will have to tie a piece of string on my finger to remind me next week. Look forward to reading more hair raising adventures and to Jack's photos. Have fun.

Hiya Jon and Jack

Fighting to the death in the local council elections here -- and wondering what I am doing instead of being in Timor. Mongolia looks a-m-a-z-i-n-g. The pictures show it is all flat, but you're route seems somewhat all over the place. Straight lines, my friends, straight lights. Hey -- bear in mind what you are approaching; Westfield's Shepherd's Bush, 26 hectares (or something) of shopping centre. Here's what you're missing back here: (a) the Australian cricketers getting seriously nasty and moany because the Indians are giving them lessons, (b) the Federal Government trying to do the weakest thing possible about climate change while withdrawing funding from the Australian National Music thing in the South Melbourne Town Hall, and (c) the Council elections with the State Government passing a new law to muzzle councillors and advantage developers.

The mighty democracy stumbles along. Come back, guys, we need you.

PS: I hope you've fixed up your postal vote!!!

best regards

What a memorable adventure you are both having. Looking forward so much to Jon coming back to 774 - not the same without him - And I hope he will find time to tell us little by little about your wonderful trip. When I was in Kakadu earlier this year I saw stars I had forgotten about, the milky way and constellations never seen in our big cities now. It was magic. Take care and enjoy!!
